Welcome & Announcements:

**In Sherry’s absence because she is ill, dues should be given to Candy.

**Christie Lee was in a car accident, so Candy passed around cards for us to sign for both girls.

**We welcomed Judy Ashton who came as Anne Dyer’s friend, and Nancy Anderson who moved from the Seattle area where she was a member of the Write-On Calligraphy Guild.

**We were asked to letter bookmarks at the Historical Center on Pikes Peak and 24th during Territory Days. Six people are needed in total, two people each day from noon to 3:00 Saturday May 25, Sunday May 26, and Monday May 27.

Show & Share:

**Cyndi brought a flourished, floral heart Thank You on black paper.

**TJ made a Trading Card-Just Nuts About Boots!

**Kathy brought 2 Trading Cards, one filled with hearts, and the other about Animals.  She also had an oval piece with a sheep and lamb surrounded by leaves in each season, then surrounded with “To everything there is a season”.

**Newcomer Nancy brought a foundational piece she lettered on a water-colored background.

**Tom brought full pages of his daily lettering of Proverbs 3.

**Jacque made 3 appliqued Trading Cards with fun faces.

**Kate’s Trading Card with a grey background was lettered with Joy

**Leslie brought an envelope she received from the guild’s envelope exchange, and super cute water-colored popsicles she did with her granddaughter.

**Cheryl’s Trading Card had a purple background with the outline of a flower done in black.

**Cecelia had 2 different Happy Birthday cards she lettered in a fun and funky style.

Evening Presentation:

**Lynn Friedberg’s exemplar had a few colorful words she lettered in black Uncial with bright accented shadowing. After a brief introduction to Uncial for the newer members, she asked us to write a 4-5 lettered word or name in Uncial before showing us how to lightly pencil in the white space on the ‘shadow’ side of each letter.  She showed us how to use a white or cream-colored pencil to facilitate blending the colors to come.  Next, she suggested adding a light-colored shadow just up to the pencil line.  The second color was to be a bit darker, with a third color to accentuate it all.  The results were really lovely.

Welcome & Announcements:

**Candy handed out a playing card to each of us with the challenge to create an Artistic Trading Card to bring next month.

**Mary announced she put some freebies from the library on the back table.  What doesn’t get taken will be donated.

**Margaret Satriano joined our guild tonight!

Show & Share:

**Cecelia had several things to share: a piece from her collage class and a black and white piece on Kozo paper, along with a Uncial piece in blue ink, and 3 brush lettering pieces!

**Lonnie showed us what she added to her meeting folder, and quarters of Arches Text wove she printed to look like the paste paper originals.  She spray-coated each one to prevent them from buckling with watercolors.

**Tom had a page of Proverbs done in Foundational.

**Cheryl showed off an illuminated double-page she did in her Mahara journal for Randy Hasson's on-line "Layered Journal" class.

Evening Presentation:

**Lonnie had several samples to show us on the overhead of names she’d written as practice work in the past.  She letters client’s names on envelopes for open house invitations, knowing people will take note of anything artistic and hand done. She asked us to write one word four times, and began to embellish each one in a different manner using a .01 black micron to add a shadow line and flourishes.  She added layers of color pencil to one, and showed us how to make the name pop by adding a straight black line underneath or a wavy line(s) through the middle of the name.  She likes using Wink of Stella markers and says one marker lasts about 200 envelopes!

**Lonnie let us choose a quarter sheet of printed Text Wove for tonight’s finished piece.

Evening Presentation:

**Cheryl had a number of exemplars of her letters and some inspired by Yves Leterme.  She asked us to bring copy paper to work on and a pointed cartridge brush.  She demonstrated how to letter holding the brush in the normal, natural way to achieve a more controlled letter.  She then shifted to an upright/perpendicular hold on the brush, freeing the arm to create a more free-spirited letter.  We practiced on our own for a while and then she had us make Cootie Catchers or Fortune Tellers using Cecelia’s colorful 12x12 papers.  She walked us through the folding and gave us possible words to write in the correct spots.  The directions can be found at www.teachbesideme.com. It was a fun little take home!
